DOING GOOD WORK IN THE WORLD...as simple as that...

About Dana

Dana Peterson Dorsett, MSW, LCSW has been described by clients as "Magnetic," "Peace-Filled, and "Non-Judgmental". Prior to earning her Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University, Dana obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Romance Languages (French & Spanish) at New York University's School of Arts and Sciences. More recent continuing education studies:

  • Spirituality and coaching skills at Iyanla Vanzants school of Inner Visions Institute of Spiritual Development and Certified Training Alliance.

  • Trauma Informed Hypnotherapy

  • Hypnotherapy for trauma, anxiety, phobias, pain, smoking cessation, weight control, other aversions/cravings

  • RYS200: a 200 hour trauma informed yoga teacher training: Prism of the Mind, Body, Spirit with Danielle LeBlanc in Wilmington NC

Why a therapist? Along her path she was introduced to and continued to foster a interest in the spiritual world, yoga, healing arts and human nature in general. Ultimately, she was guided to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work and Certificate as Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Practitioner, with the idea to combine traditional clinical psychology and Eastern philosophies.  It was time to embrace her gifts; the ability and passion to intuit where the healing is sought and how she might be able to support and guide.

Prior to her private practice, Dana paved her way through experience. She served in various Community Mental Health Centers, in NYC and NJ, healing the populations of the elderly, victims of trauma and the severely mentally ill.  In NJ, Dana worked as psychotherapist in various group practices, was co-owner and Director of Bordentown Counseling Center and owned a private practice for 20+ years. In the spring of 2022, Dana decided to move south to the southern coastal town of Wilmington, NC where she lives today and enjoys sharing her passion of living her fullest on all 4 levels.

Through her journey, Dana has learned that "we all live this internal dance in our minds. We go in and out of a flow– between the Ego mind and the Higher Self. Other terms used are between Fear and Love, the Lower Self and the Higher Self, or the Light and the Dark. The challenge here is to learn how to MASTER this dance. And to recognize that we do not have to believe everything the Mind says. Learning how to live more often in present time verses future or past helps us master this dance. This is what Mindfulness is all about: noticing what we are saying, feeling, doing while we are saying it, feeling it, doing it. The more often we practice being Mindful verses Mindless, the more apt we are to tap into our power to CHOOSE how we want our life to be!" (see more in treatment approach).

In her private practice Dana specializes in issues:

Anxiety disorders

Depression

Stress Management

Health issues, Infertility

Poor body image

Relationship issues: with self, others and the world

Dana Peterson Dorsett, MSW, LCSW has a holistic, non-judgmental approach when treating her clients:

“I strive to help my clients GROW; to cultivate and own their inner JOY, BALANCE, PEACE and FREEDOM as they confront day to day challenges. I help them understand how they have CHOICES. I teach that it’s not so much about what’s happening to us, more importantly, it’s about where we decide to place our focus, how we decide to handle the situation and who we decide to become because of the situation.”
